Press Release-Former Waltham South School Building

The Village of North Utica President and Board of Trustees
are proud to announce the pending purchase of property located at 248 Canal St.; formerly the Waltham Elementary School – Utica Campus.

We recognize the historic value and significance of this iconic building to our residents and to our downtown community and its’ past; Now it will become an important part of the future of our community as we continue to grow. The Village is developing plans to utilize the property in several different capacities.

Following renovations, the Village Offices and Meeting Chambers will be relocated to the new building, providing us with the opportunity to grow, to further continue to serve the needs of our community.  Being centrally located near our largest community park, the historic I & M Canal, and our downtown business district, many residents will also now be able to walk to the Village offices while out enjoying the rest of the community. The building also features a large gymnasium which will become a recreation center that will be available to residents for indoor sports and social gatherings. We are excited to be able to provide this space for our residents to utilize and enjoy for many years to come!  The North Utica Police Department will remain in its’ current location and be afforded the ability to grow into a much-needed larger space.

This has been a long-term goal of the Village Board and we are excited to be able to continue the legacy of this long-standing iconic building and to share it with our community. There will be an open house, in the near future, where residents will be able to view newly developed plans for the building, as well as tour the current space.  That date has not yet been determined but will be announced and posted on the Village website.
