Masterful Chainsaw Carvings
24/7-365: throughout the year
A FREE art exhibit in nature. Pick up an "Art in the Park" brochure at the registration desk of the Lodge Lobby or in the brochure rack of the Great Hall and set out on a journey of discovery. 30 masterful chainsaw carvings representing wildlife, Native American subjects and even Abe Lincoln can be found throughout the Lodge grounds. Many of the outdoor carvings were created from IDNR-approved trees on site.
Make a game of it with your kids, your friends, or your colleagues or use the opportunity as a teaching tool for your students.

D.T. Suzuki Classes
at the
Hegeler Carus Mansion
On Thursday, January 14, and for five
consecutive Thursday evenings,
Diane Martin will be teaching classes on
D.T. Suzuki at the Hegeler Carus Mansion.
Ms. Martin will be teaching the ten Zen Ox-head
pictures of human development, and introducing
some Zen koans, in addition to the Lankavatara Sutra
which concerns the mind, consciousness, and delusion.
The classes will focus on the original work of Suzuki
and on the translations he did while working for
Open Court Publishing Company beginning in 1897
and continuing for 11 years. D.T. Suzuki is still revered
as a leading Buddhist priest, and as the person who
introduced Zen Buddhism to the Western World.
Classes are free to the public,
but donations are always welcomed.
Classes will run on Thursdays,
January 14, 21, 28
and
February 4, 11, and 18
from 6 - 8 pm.
